MASH Tested and approved

The first crash test for MASH approval is shown.

… but what is it?

MASH (Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware) is the industry standard for crash testing and evaluating roadside safety devices in North America. Developed by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), MASH provides uniform guidelines to ensure that roadside hardware—such as signposts, guardrails, barriers, and crash cushions—performs effectively in real-world collision scenarios.

What Does MASH Certification Mean?

For a roadside product like EcoPoste to be MASH-certified, it must undergo extensive crash testing at different speeds and impact angles.

The evaluation assesses:
✅ Structural Integrity – The signpost must remain stable or behave predictably upon impact.
✅ Energy Absorption – It should mitigate crash forces to reduce vehicle and occupant injury.
✅ Vehicle Stability – It must not cause excessive vehicle deceleration or instability, which could lead to rollovers or secondary collisions.
✅ Occupant Risk – The post should minimize injury potential to drivers and passengers.

Why is MASH Important?

MASH certification ensures that roadside infrastructure meets modern vehicle standards and safety expectations. State and provincial transportation agencies require MASH-compliant hardware for new installations and replacements, making it the gold standard for road safety equipment across the U.S. and Canada.

With EcoPoste successfully passing MASH testing at all speeds, it is now the first and only sustainable signpost approved for North American highways, reinforcing its status as the safest and environmentally friendly option for roadway signage. 🚦🚗
